Chimpanzee habituation is also a popular activity in Kibale Forest National Park which also starts from Kanyanchu visitor’s centre. Thirteen species can be sought, and a good variety of diurnal monkeys invariably encountered, and many different bird species. Chimpanzee trekking has been going on since 1993 and the chances of locating them are excellent. The habituation experience starts early in the morning and it takes the whole day depending on your interests.
The perennially popular primate walk provides the chance to observe the Chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Chimpanzee communities are accustomed to human presence, some have been observed for over 25 years and the chance of locating them is over 90%. Walks leave Kanyanchu Visitor Centre at 6:30 am and the walk takes you up to 6:00 pm depending on your interests.
The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience enables visitors to accompany researchers and habituators into the forest. The chimpanzee communities involved are less accustomed to human presence than those visited on the Primate Walk and following and viewing them is both exciting and challenging.
It is available on a full-day basis starting and advance booking for this activity is required. Take a chance watching these chimpanzees leaving their overnight nests between 6:00-6:30 am before feeding, copulating, hunting, breastfeeding, resting, patrolling and displaying until it is time to build new nests around 6:00 pm.
